The Finns didn’t allow any complications. They defeated Norway 9–1 and finished second in group B, which sends them right into the quarterfinals.
The defending champions started the match in a strong way and went up by three during the first period. Although Finland was the more dangerous team, Norway also created some good chances, especially in a power-play. But the Norwegians weren’t able to get the ball into the net so their opponents held a 3–0 lead after twenty minutes.
The Finnish players led the game in the same direction in the second period. They increased their lead by one goal and stayed faultless in defense so the score was 4–0 after two periods.
Unlike in the first forty minutes, Norway found a way of getting the ball behind the Finnish goalie in the third period. But Finland’s lead was safely high at that time already. The direct struggle for the second place and for the quarterfinals ended up by a clear Finnish 9–1 victory. The Norwegians, on the other hand, are going to face Australia in the preliminary round of the elimination stage.
