IKSU from Umeå take the title! – 08.10.2017

Congratulations IKSU from Umeå for winning Champions Cup 2017! IKSU secured the title by beating Finnish Champions Classic 5-1 in today’s final.

IKSU took control from beginning but had a bit of luck in their opening goal with a Classic defender reaching out to intercept a pass but directing the ball into her own net. After Amanda Delgado Johansson’s 2-0 IKSU had a tight grip of the title. their third goal was the beauty of the final with quick passes opening the Classic defence and Julia Nordin adding the final touch at the far post.

Hanna Sipiläinen’s low distance shot on a power play surprised IKSU goalie Emelie Frisk with just 21 seconds to go in the second but that was not enough to get the Finns back into the game. Iza Rydfjäll’s impressive power play goal with just ten minutes to go in the game practically meant IKSU were the champions already. A nice revenge, too, after their semi-final overtime loss against just Classic a year ago.
