Champions Cup model launched in 2011 — 11.09.2010

The IFF Central Board held its third meeting of the year in Amsterdam, the Netherlands on September 3rd 2010.  During the meeting the Champions Cup for the top European club teams were discussed

Champions Cup played for the first time in 2011

The working group assigned to create a solution for the future European Top Club Competition – The Champions Cup, has discussed the Champions Cup in two meetings so far. The working group had its second meeting in Prague on the 13th of August 2010 and made a proposal based on a thorough analysis with the pros and cons of any competition systems for the Champions Cup.

The end result was a compromise between the needs of the clubs, the national federations and the IFF. In the final solution, which is based on the earlier decisions made concerning the competition system a cost-allocation system.

The IFF CB decided to start with the Champions Cup 2011, in accordance with the working group proposal. The Champions Cup 2011 is played in Czech Repulic.

Playing system for the Champions Cup:

• The tournament shall be played with 6 men´s and 6 women´s teams as a five day tournament in one venue.
• The tournament will be played by the four National Champions from Czech Republic, Finland, Sweden and Switzerland based on the national team ranking 2008/2009, the winner of the new EFC and a second team from the organising country.
• In 2011 Champions Cup the 1st ranked nation after the top four above (according to the EFC ranking) will qualify instead of the EFC Final round winner in 2010.
• The National Association can decide which will be the second team in the Champions Cup.
• The Champions Cup ranking shall in the future be built on a 3-year Club Teams ranking starting from 2011.
