Falun to take on SPV in the final — 05.10.2013Falun are through to the 2013 Champions Cup final, but Alligator Malans really made them fight hard for the win. Malans surprised Falun early in the game by getting the first goal of the match when Sandro Dominioni scored off a Tommi Aro pass with the clock at just 02:45. This was just after a Falun shot at the other end had pinballed around the goal posts but never made it across the line. Alligator Malans were running hard and really making Falun have to work to get the ball out from deep in their own area. A trademark Alexander Galante Carlström shot from a free hit taken quickly by Rasmus Enström eventually got the score to 1-1.
It felt that with the score now at 7-4, Falun had hit their stride and would make sure that the final spot was theirs. It was going to take something special from Malans to make a real match of it in the last period. They managed a few moments of something special, especially the goal by Kevin Berry which came after a beautiful spin move and pass by Tim Braillard from behind the goal, which brought them to within 1 goal with the score at 7-6 and with 4 minutes to play. Penalties in the closing part of the game cost Malans any real chance, but in the post-match interview, Malan´s captain, Joel Friolet, said that he felt that in a game of this level it was normal to have such high emotions. It was fitting that the Galante Carlström - Enström show was closed out with a final act from the duo, scoring the last goal of the match, to bring the final score to 8-6. - I´m very proud of my team, we had a really good fight. We have to respect the result because Falun is currently the best team in the world, Malan´s Head Coach, Akseli Ahtiainen. But Falun´s Head Coach Thomas Brottman disagreed: When asked about what he expects from tomorrow´s game, Rasmus Enström had a very simple answer: Best players: More photos by Juhani Järvenpää and Topi Naskali on IFF Flickr Champions Cup partners: |
