Finland to play-offs with three wins – 05.12.2016

Finland continued their road towards their aim, WFC Gold, with Northern derby against Estonia. Finnish team completed group stage with a third win 10-3 (3-2, 4-1, 3-0).

After wins against Germany and Switzerland, Finns already guaranteed the first place in Group A. Estonia had one point after a tied game against Germany. As usually, Finland started the match with excellent ball possession and created many scoring chances. Success for Suomi came when there were about ten minutes played in the first period. Later Mika Moilanen scored twice and increased  the Finnish lead to 3-0. Estonians responded with a power play goal from Kaspar Kallion. Only 23 seconds later Mats Tamme scored another one by a penalty shot.

Estonia didn´t get to celebrate for long. Finland opened the second period with two quick goals and were now three goals ahead, 5-2. Finland controlled the second period. At 28:01, Tero Tiitu scored Finland´s sixth goal. Five minutes later Mats Tamme had another chance to score a penalty shot and was once again successful. Peter Kotilainen restored the four goal lead for Finland three minutes before the end of the second period.

The third period was similar to the second one -  Team Finland played with no stress when Estonia tried to let in as few goals as possible. Tero Tiitu and Peter Kotilainen scored again and the match ended with numbers 10-3 for the Finns. Finland ended the group stage with six points and with the first place in Group A. They will play in the quarter-finals this Friday. Meanwhile Estonia will face USA or Canada in the play-offs on Wednesday.
