IFF Member Associations Meeting news Day 2 – 14.12.2013

The second day of the IFF Member Associations focused on women´s and girls´ floorball, good governance, floorball gimmicks, the referee education video launch and the upcoming IFF Events.

The new GoGirls! floorball project was introduced by Sarah Mitchell from the IFF office including examples from the French female floorball development project and the Finnish diamond project.

GoGirls! Floorball is the new IFF project aimed at helping to increase and promote the participation of girls and women in floorball throughout the world.

The IFF aims to provide guidance on the different challenges faced by girls in obtaining access to participation in sport, and to help break down those barriers within the international floorball family.

The materials are designed to serve a wide range of communities and populations. More on the Project is found here and all materials are to be found here.

During a workshop session the MA meeting participants discussed the following questions:

• Within your country, what are the major problems you face in increasing the number of female players?
• What strategies have you used to try and increase numbers?
• What has been successful or unsuccessful for your organisation?
• From the list of ”What can you do now?”, which do you think your organisation could realistically look at introducing?

The member associations came up with the following development ideas:

- A structure for female floorball series and for recruiting players is needed.
- Encourage more female participation on each level (players, coaches, officials, leaders).
- Female leaders as role models needed
- Both women´s leagues and girls´ leagues need to be built to develop female floorball
- Using alternative versions of the game for juniors is useful in the start (smaller rinks etc.).
- Collecting feedback from the women players is essential.

Good Governance and Code of Ethics

IOC Good governance include the following topics and we need to fulfill these in order to be on the Short List:
• Good governance basic principles
• Strategic planning process
• Gender equity in elected bodies
• Illegal and irregular betting

- The work in the associations is like building the road and good governance helps you to stay on the road. Effective governance also leads to effective performance, Filip Suman emphasized during his presentation.

Floorball gimmick identification

A brainstorming session for finding a unique floorball gimmick that would "stand out" and create an interest for the sport was held.

The participants came up with the following ideas:
- Floorballiser app, an app that would add floorball equipment to an existing photo
- A half floorball ball used as pen holder
- Floorball hook on the glasses
- Floorball jewels on the phone
- Flooball pen with #floorball and ball on top

New IFF Referee education video

Veli Halonen from the IFF office presented the new video material has been produced aiming to educate IFF member association referees on fixed situations, situations leading to free-hits, situations leading to different penalties and penalty shots. This material will be embedded to the existing basic referee material and can be ordered from the IFF office (halonen(at)floorball.org) starting from March 2014.
