World Floorball Championships (WFC)

Held in December each year

Women’s World Championships played every odd year

Men’s World Championships played every even year

Final Round is played with 16 teams. One team (organiser) is directly qualified, while the other 15 teams are decided via regional quotas &/or qualifications.

Qualifications are played regionally in Europe, Asia-Oceania, and the Americas in January / February of the same year as the final round

WFC Playing System

Groups are determined by a ballot system, based on ranking and are formed as follows:

  • Group A & Group B each with two teams ranked 1-4 and two teams ranked 5-8
  • Group C & Group D each with two teams ranked 9-12 and two teams ranked 13-16

Each team plays once against all teams in their group. After the group stage, the two best teams of group A and B go directly to the quarter-finals. Teams placed 3rd and 4th in group A and B and the teams placed 1st and 2nd in group C and D qualify to the play-off round. The winners of these matches proceed to the quarter-finals, while the losers move to placement matches.  Quarter-finals, semi-finals and final match, along with placement matches for all teams determine the final standings.

WFC Qualification System

All teams apart from the organiser should qualify for the adult WFC. This system was installed from the Men’s World Floorball Championships in Gothenburg, Sweden, 2014.

The WFC quota system decides how many teams from each region will qualify, and is based on the total number of teams registered for the event. This system gives a preliminary quota that can be adjusted as necessary. Additionally, countries from new continents shall have to qualify and not be given a direct spot in the Final round.

U19 World Floorball Championships (U19 WFC)

Held in May each year

Women’s U19 World Championships played every even year

Men’s U19 World Championships every odd year

Final Round with 16 teams. The top 9 teams from each U19 WFC directly qualify to the next WFC, while the other 7 teams are decided via regional quotas &/or qualifications.

Qualifications are played regionally in Europe, Asia-Oceania, and the Americas in September of the year prior to the final round.

U19 WFC Playing System

A & B divisions, each with 8 teams divided into two groups.

Every team plays each other once within their group. The top two teams after the group stage proceed to the semi-finals, while the other four teams have placement matches. The 8th placed team in A-division will be relegated to B-division for the next U19 WFC. The winner of B-division will be promoted to A-division for the next U19 WFC.

From 2020 onwards, a new system will be introduced. 16 teams will be divided into four groups based on ranking and ballot. Groups will be made up as follows:

  • Group A & Group B each with two teams ranked 1-4 and two teams ranked 5-8
  • Group C & Group D each with two teams ranked 9-12 and two teams ranked 13-16

Each team plays once against all teams in their group. After the group stage, the two best teams of group A and B go directly to the semi-finals. Teams placed 4th in Group A and B will play qualification matches against the 1st placed teams from Group C & D. The winners of these matches will play for 7th place and will be in Group A & B at the next U19 WFC. The losers will play for 9th place. All other teams play regular placement matches. The nine top-placed teams after the event all receive direct qualification to the next U19 WFC.

U19 WFC Qualification system

The nine top-placed teams at each event qualify for the next U19 WFC. The remaining seven places are determined by the regional quota &/or qualification system. The WFC quota system decides how many teams from each region will qualify, and is based on the total number of teams registered for the event. This system gives a preliminary quota that can be adjusted as necessary. Additionally, countries from new continents shall have to qualify and not be given a direct spot in the Final round.
