The Australian Floorball Open (AFO) which is the annual club championships in Australia was recently held in Perth Western Australia.
Stephen King´s (Australian Floorball Association) report from the tournament:
The event was a great success with the largest number of teams ever. A total of 19 teams played. There were 12 men’s teams, 4 women’s teams and 3 junior teams. The great thing about the tournament this year was the attendance by a men’s and women’s team from Singapore (their 2nd year of attending) and for the first time a European team from Switzerland attended to compete in the men’s competition. The Singapore teams included National Team players including members of the Women’s team about to compete at the WFC 2007.
The results were Citywatch Crusaders (Victorian club) beat Bondi Rockets (NSW club) 6-4 for the men’s title in a very hard fought game. In the women’s Singapore beat Dingoes (WA club) 2-1 in a great final. These 2 teams had played twice in the preliminary rounds for 2 wins to Dingoes by 1-0 and 2-1, so all games were very tight between these two teams. The junior’s title was won by Revolution Sharks (WA club) in a convincing manner.
For those interested the Swiss Bulls made the semi-finals but lost by 1 goal to the eventual winners Citywatch Crusaders and RP Salsaz (Singapore men’s team) unfortunately did not make the finals but had improved significantly from their first year and had many close games this year. Feedback is, the Swiss and Singapore players had a great time playing in the tournament and visiting Perth. We hope they will be the first of many more overseas teams in future years.
