The Finnish All Star-defender Juha Kivilehto has signed a contract with FC Helsingborg in the Swedish Super League. It is the biggest new acquisition in the history of the club.
|
- "Both the city of Helsingborg and the club FCH has given me a positive impression. I really want to play in the Swedish League, it is after all the best floorball league in the world. My ambition is of course to win the Swedish Championship together with FCH", says Juha Kivilehto who recently won the Finnish Championship once again with SSV Helsinki.
But even bigger was the gold medal in the World Championships that he won with the Finnish national team after defeating Sweden in the WFC final for the first time. Kivilehto was a major contributor and one of the best defenders of the team.
- "On several occasions he has been ranked among the top 10 players in the world and one of the very best defenders. This is a dream acqusition for us. We have been looking for an experienced playmaker on defence and there is no doubt that we have found that now. Juha is probably the best defender outside Sweden today", says Glenn Stjernkvist, Sports manager at FCH. |

Kivilehto turns 28 in December and has already achieved a lot on the field. He has won the Finnish Championships several times and played in the European Cup final (lost to Warberg in a penalty shoot-out). In the recent EuroFloorball Cup he was elected for the tournament All Star Team.
He is an experienced player with 254 games in the Finnish League (scoring 53 goals + 128 assists, total 181 points). Also 80 play off games (32 goals + 29 assists = 61 points). And on top of that 49 national team games for Finland, appearing in four World Championship tournaments.
- "Those who know Kivilehto says that he is a humble team player with a world class sense of playing. We have been very impressed with what he has shown in the last two World Championships. I am extremely pleased that he will be a part of my team", says Mikael Karlberg, Head coach of FC Helsingborg.
Kivilehto has actually played in Sweden once before, the season 2003/2004 (when he was 21 years old) he came to Finspång. Kivilehto returned after one season to Finland and has since then established himself as a world class defender in the Finnish League and the Finnish national team.
