Special Olympics World Games 2017 & Pre-games – 11.01.2016

The Special Olympics World Winter Games 2017 pre-games are taking place in Austria. A total of 14 Special Olympics floorball teams are playing in the pre-games. The World Games 2017 quota has also been set.

The pre-games take place January 10th - 15th and the floorball tournament will start on January 12th in Graz. The finals are played on January 14th.

The quota for the Special Olympics World Winter Games 2017 has also been set. Altogether there will be teams from 33 different countries in the world playing in the Special Olympics World Games Floorball tournament.

Africa (4): SO Burkina Faso, SO Cote d’ Ivoire, SO Namibia, SO Nigeria
Asia Pacific (3): SO Bharat (India), SO Malaysia, SO Singapore
East Asia (1): SO Mongolia
Europe (20): Austria (4 teams), Ireland (2), Azerbaijan, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Gibraltar, Isle of Man, Israel, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Moldova, Norway, Russia, Sweden, Switzerland.
Latin America (5): SO Argentina, SO Mexico, SO Panama, SO Uruguay, SO Venezuela

The number of floorball players in the Special Olympics country programmes are also continuously increasing:

- Floorball has grown tremendously within the Special Olympics movement during the last two years. There are now 33 countries that have floorball teams and will play floorball in the World Games 2017. We have also been very pleased with the cooperation between the Austrian Floorball Association and the local organising committee preparing for the 2017 Special Olympics World Winter Games, SOEE Sports Director, Mariusz Damentko comments.

Floorball in the Special Olympics World Winter Games 2017

The Special Olympics World Winter Games 2017 will take place in Graz, Schladming and Styria in Austria, March 14th - 25th.

Floorball will be one of the nine sports on the World Winter Games programme 2017. The nine sports are the following: Figure skating, Speed Skating, Floor Hockey, Floorball, Snowshoeing, Alpine Skiing, Nordic skiing, Snowboarding, Stick shooting.

Floorball will be played in the Graz Messehalle.
