Spain secured the win in the last minute and Belgium near the semifinal — 06.09.2012

Spain were the last team to start the tournament and they were heartily welcomed by Slovenia, who scored after just 27 seconds and Belgium near to reach the semifinals after a convincing win versus Austria.

The match between Belgium and Austria had at least three faces.

Austria started off well and had several chances to score in a quite physical match. But at 16:58 the Belgians could take the lead with a goal scored by Bert De Moor and with just 13 seconds to go in the first period Ruben Lovenweent increased the lead to 2-0.

In the 2nd period Belgium had a lot of chances to further increase the lead but it took a power play opportunity to get the 3rd ball into the net behind Nicholas Jauck in the Austrian goal. The Austrians had big difficulties in this period with two more 2-minute penalties and managed to test the Belgian keeper Daan Rollin only once.

The 3rd period was evenly filled with chances in both ends, a real crowd pleaser, but obviously this was Team Belgium´s day.
At 42:15 they could again score to increase the lead to 4-0.

A minute later Team Austria finally could get the ball into the Belgian net, the goal scored by Jakob Mayer. Even though there were no lack of chances to increase their scoring the goal proved to be a consolation goal.

The win 4-1 puts Belgium in a good position to reach the semifinals

Spain - Slovenia

Slovenia, well in the tournament after yestardays win, took the command and Saso Bizjak scored already after 27 seconds. However, after a few minutes Spain recovered from the shock and the play on the field evened up. The period was played in a very high tempo, which both teams could cope with although sometimes on the limit as far as the physical play concerned. No more goals were scored in the 1st period although the Spanish team had started to get closer to an equalizer, mainly due to quite defensive tactics from the Slovenians.

Two and a half minutes into the 2nd period the equalizer came, the goal scored by Enrique Gonzalez. In this part of the match Team Spain was able to put on some pressure and at 27:43 Daniel Ramos scored a powerplay goal and the match  turned in favour of the Spaniards. A lot of shots, from both teams, found the way to the crossbar and the posts but not into the net so the result after 2 periods was 2-1 to Spain.

The tempo was kept high also in the 3rd period. The Slovenians worked hard to equalize and tested  the Spanish keeper Gonzalo Sevilla several times but he was not in the mood to let any more balls into his net. In the end of the match Team Slovenia took out the goalkeeper for a last effort but instead a third Spanish goal was scored to the empty net at 59:16, a goal that was followed up by a 4th goal at 59:47, giving Spain the victory 4-1 in a match that was a lot more even than the result shows.
