Mladá Boleslav beats Slevik in overtime and grabs fifth place — 04.10.2015

Players of Mladá Boleslav definitely didn´t imagine the fifth place game to be like this. Their match against Slevik from Norway turned into a scoring agony that was decided only in overtime when Petr Krzyžanek sent the ball to the top corner and secured the fifth place for the home team.

Unsurprisingly it was Mladá Boleslav who was setting the pace of the game from the very beginning. But its players were struggling to create any scoring opportunities. The first one came as late as in the 17th minute. Curney´s brilliant pass found Tadeáš Chroust in front of the goal, who, however, didn´t manage to open the score from close range. And one minute later the home team couldn´t celebrate either. Jan Natov had chance for a rebound shot but Slevik´s goalie Vegard Tvete was alert again. And when Mladá Boleslav didn´t convert their power play late in the first period, the teams went into their dressing rooms with a goalless draw.

It was the above-mentioned goalie Tvete who held the Norwegian team´s hopes afloat. Mladá Boleslav controlled the game for the most part of the second period as well, but their dominance still didn´t bear fruit in the form of a goal. The home team´s scoring agony was finally ended at 36:50 by Ondřej Fojta. He was left unmarked in the middle of the court and sent his shot into the net.

Yesterday, in the first period against Tatran, Slevik players already showed they can be dangerous. And they confirmed it against Boleslav. The team led by the coach Pazdera kept trying to score the securing second goal, until the Norwegians threw cold water on them with an equalizer with nine minutes left in regulation. Following a set piece, the Czech vice-champion´s defence forgot about Johan Ahlberg, who sent the ball into the net.

The home team created pressure as the end of the game was approaching, and the Norwegians resisted only with the help of a foul. And since the power play remained unconverted, the game went into overtime. After 21 seconds of extra time Petr Krzyžanek exhilarated the crowd of almost 800 fans with a shot that found the top corner of Tvete´s goal. Mladá Boleslav beat Slevik by 2:1 and finished the Champions Cup on home soil on the fifth position.
